Why two ladders instead of one?
Because 3D printing and laser cutting share a bench and almost nothing else. They use different consumables, fail in unrelated ways, and have safety requirements that are not comparable. A single beginner to expert ladder would have to compromise both, so each gets its own three tiers and its own reasoning.
Which should I buy first?
A 3D printer, for most people. It is more forgiving, the consequences of getting it wrong are wasted filament rather than fire or eye damage, and the accessories can be added gradually. A laser is the better first machine only if your work is specifically flat material: signage, boxes, engraved gifts or inlay.
Is the expert tier worth it?
Only under specific conditions, and both expert pages say plainly what those are. Expert printing pays off when you print continuously rather than occasionally, and a CO2 laser is worth the move mainly when clear acrylic becomes a requirement. If neither applies, the intermediate bench is the better buy and the difference is real money.
Do the totals include everything?
