Adhesion or release: A flexible plate usually lets parts pop off once cool. Where it does not, a glue stick does double duty: it helps difficult materials stick and it protects the plate from materials that stick far too well.
Tools
Flush cutters: For trimming supports, purge lines and stringing. A pair of side cutters is the one tool you reach for after every single print, and a sharp flush cut is the difference between a clean part and a scarred one.
Digital calipers: You cannot calibrate what you cannot measure. Calipers turn "it seems a bit small" into a shrinkage figure you can compensate for, and they are the cheapest accuracy upgrade on the bench.

- An enclosure. You do not need one for PLA, and a warm chamber actively hurts PLA by softening overhangs as they print.
- A hardened nozzle. Brass is fine until you print something filled with carbon fibre or glow powder, and at that point you will know.
- A filament dryer. PLA tolerates ordinary room humidity well. Buy one when you move to nylon, or when prints start popping and stringing for no other reason.
- A second printer. Finish a dozen prints on the first one before deciding you need two.
What to upgrade first
- A second spool in a different material, usually PETG, once PLA prints reliably. It teaches more than any accessory.
- A spare build plate, so a failed print stuck to the first one does not stop the bench.
- A better nozzle set, but only once you want a size other than 0.4 mm.
